Distance is 13.7 km (8.5 miles); total climb is 175 m (577 feet); terrain can be up and down in places; surfaces are mainly walked earth paths, grass and some tarmac/gravel paths.

Probably the most famous resident of Sherwood Forest (after Robin Hood, of course), the iconic Major Oak is an ancient giant that absolutely cannot be missed.  We will head into the Heart of Sherwood Forest on this walk and with its many off-road tracks it is a good place to walk around and see the remains of Robin Hood’s medieval Sherwood Forest.

We start at Kings Clipstone and with its remains of the palace and royal hunting park, Kings Clipstone is the place to head for if you are interested in Sherwood Forest’s royal connections.
