This should be a relatively easy weekend of moorland hiking!

OutdoorLads are returning for a weekend to a firm favourite, the North Yorkshire town of Helmsley. Situated on the River Rye and surrounded by the North York Moors national park, the town features a famous medieval fortress, the Victorian Helmsley Walled garden, and is situated on the Cleveland Way. Helmsley features a great array of local independent shops, cafes, and public houses, and a weekly market. All in, a fantastic location for a weekend of enjoyment with OutdoorLads friends, with lots to see, do and explore - it's a difficult spot to beat!

The weekend will be centered around a fantastic walk on Saturday, exploring the local area, all of which is stunning! We'll decide on the day which route to go on, as we are spoilt for chouce here. Depending on leaders we may run more than one walk (if you are a leader and would like to lead a walk - please let the event leader know!) A few of the available options are: Helmsley - Rievaulx Abbey circular; this 11.75km route around Rievaulx Abbey; or this shorter 10km Rosedale Abbey explorer. Either way, great scenery is guaranteed, and fresh air and a good stretch of the legs will work up an appetite for our hearty dinner back at base!

After dinner, we can socialise at the hostel, perhaps play some board games, or frequent a local pub - the choice if yours, either way it's a chance to natter and socialise with fellow OutdoorLads.

On the Friday night, we'll arrive mingle and get to know those we don't already know and catch up with those we've met before, and then share the traditional OutdoorLads buffet, which we'll all bring a contribution to. We'll be walking on Saturday, or if you dont famcy that, there are a whole host of things to see and do in the area if you'd rather. We'll sit down to a hearty meal on Saturday which we will prepare together, and then on Sunday an optional shorter walk or a visit to Helmsley Walled Garden will be available before we say our goodbyes and head home, with a warm glow of a weekend well spent!

Our accommodation is a hostel with typical dorm bunk rooms, one of which is a fully fully accessible 3-bed room (bunk beds and a single)  - please let the event leader know in advance if you would need an accessible room. There is limited parking inside the hostel grounds for 9 cars, but plenty of free on-street parking - but why not try to share costs and car share?

OUTDOORLADS FOUNDATION  Fancy coming along but having a difficult time of it (for whatever reason), and/or finding it hard to justify the expense?
