Ullswater Lakeside Walk and Boat Trip

This walk is part of a weekend of walks in the Lake District. There will be other walks organised for Saturday and Sunday. You might like to stay over on Friday and / or Saturday night in a B&B or Youth Hostel.

Linked to Arthurian Legend, Ullswater is unique in the Lake District, sculpted by three separate glaciers in the last Ice Age. England's third highest mountain Helvellyn (3,117ft) graces the southern reach and the valley itself is home to some of England's rarest wildlife. This landscape has inspired artists for centuries, William Wordworth wrote his famour poem 'Daffodils' after a lakeshore walk here in 1807.

Today, the Ullswater 'Steamers' provide the perfect opportunity to combine a cruise with some of the most spectacular walks within the National Park.

We will meet at Glenridding and after a short walk along the road we will walk along the southern shore of the Lake for about 7 miles until we get to Howtown where we will catch the steamer back to Glenridding. We will aim to get the 4.05pm or 4.50pm boats. The fare is £6.80. You can buy drinks and snacks on the boat and dogs are welcome (dog tickets are £1).

There will be an opportunity to have a drink and/or a meal at the Glenridding Hotel after the walk, and possibly a lunch time drink at the pub at Howtown.
