Tilbury Fort Day Walk (with pub stop)
15 people attending
5 places left
This 8.5 miles (13.7 Km) walk will begin at East Tilbury Rail Station and head east along the outskirts of the town, then across the marshes before heading south along the riverside to the Coalhouse Fort. We will then continue along the riverbank marshland until we get to the historical English Heritage site Tilbury Fort, costing £5.10 entry to non English Heritage members.
After we will stop at The World's End pub for a well deserved drink before making our final journey to Tilbury Town Station.
Going: The route is generally on the flat but the marshland may be extra muddy this time of year, so please make sure you are wearing the correct footwear. There is a little road walking involved.
Getting to East Tilbury by train: East Tilbury is loaced on the c2c London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness via Tilbury line. If you are coming from London, the 09:24 direct train will get you into East Tilbury for 10:09am. There are currently no engineering works planned.
Getting to East Tilbury by car: Please note, there are no station car parking facilities at either East Tilbury or Tilbury Town Stations and there are parking restrictions in both areas. You may find a side road to park but I suggest parking at nearby Stanford-Le Hope or Pitsea stations.
Places of Interest:
- Tilbury Fort (£5.10 entry fee to non-English Heritage members which you can pay on the day).
- The distant views of Cliffe Fort opposite
- The World's End Pub for a well deserved drink!
Food & drink
There won't be any places to stop for snacks on route so please feel free to bring a packed lunch, plenty of snacks for energy and always remember to bring enough water. Although there will be opportunitiy to eat at the pub near the end of the walk, we can not guarantee they will be able to cater for a group of our size.
