Just over the border from Essex, in Suffolk, this circular route from Sudbury rail station is lovely as it combines a beautiful walk along the upper stretch of the River Stour, a stop in the pretty village of Long Melford, and then a walk south through the countryside before reaching Sudbury again. It involves a small amount of road walking in Long Melford and at the end of the walk.
Starts and ends at Sudbury Railway Station on the branch line from Marks Tey to Sudbury (Marks Tey is on the London Liverpool Street to Colchester/Ipswich main line). Note that the trains on the branch line are hourly. (at the point of this event going online there are no planned engineering works on these lines 10.12.16)

Food & drink
For a day walk I suggest a packed lunch, any snacks you'll want and plenty of water (you'd be amazed how many people forget the last bit - just because it's not warm doesn't mean you don't sweat!)
You may also wish to bring some spending money in case we find somewhere for a cup of something hot, or even a pint of something boozy.
