Join Andrew for an easy 8 mile walk in the south of Warrington using local paths and tracks and the Bridgewater Canal towpath.
Where are we going: We will start by going through the grounds of Walton Hall and up to Appleton Reservoir. We will then ascend to Hillcliffe where there are good views over Warrington and the countryside beyond. Then we will pass through an area of suburban Appleton before reaching The Dingle path that leads down the pretty valley of Lumb Brook.
Walking through a wooded area we will reach the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden where we stop for lunch. From here it’s a short walk to Grappenhall village with its cobbled street, two pubs and church. We will stop for a drink in one of the pubs before making our way back to the start of the walk along the Bridgewater canal tow path. There will be an opportunity to go to the local pub for a drink after the walk.
What to bring
It may be muddy in places so good walking boots are recomended. And please bring a waterproof jacket and a fleece in case it gets cold and wet.
Food & drink
You should bring a packed lunch and some drinks with you. We will be stopping at the Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden where you will probably be able to buy hot drinks and cakes.
