Come and join me as I lead my first OutdoorLads walk around the beautiful Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. We will undertake the longest walk around the Park which is aproximately 4 miles long. The track climbs steadliy out of the Valley for use to enjoy the views of the Brecon Beacons on a clear day and the crags of Tarren y Bwllfa. This is one of the most Southernly and spectacular glacial cwms in Britain.
From the top of the cwm its a sheer drop to the scree slopes below and the moraine deposits dumped by the melting ice about 8000 years ago. The peat bog on the plateau above the cliffs is home to some amazing plants including the insect-eating sundew. Dogs will need to kept under control as there are deep holes in places. After crossing the stream you will begin the descent towards the farm and the lakes beyond. Once back on the valley floor this joins up with the other walks.
What to bring
Remember to wear suitable clothes and shoes/boots for walking and to bring waterproofs, you never know with the Welsh weather. It may also be an idea to bring some suncream and a towel if you fancy a little padle.
Food & drink
Please remember to bring a bottle of water with you and any snacks you may want. There is a cafe at the park so the plan is to have some lunch here after the morning walk.
