Bugsworth Basin is a rare canal/tramway interchange.  Historically, lime, limestone and gritstone, quarried in Derbyshire and transported by tramway, was transferred to narrowboats and moved by the canal waterways to feed the demands of the Industrial Revolution in the North West.  The Basin was closed in 1927, losing its traffic to the new railways.   The basin is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument which was reopened in 2005 after 30 years of restoration by volunteers.

Come along for a leisurely ride along the Peak Forest Canal towpath.

Starting from the Portland Basin Boat Museum in Ashton-Under-Lyne, we'll ride through Marple Junction and on to Bugsworth Basin at Buxworth in the High Peak.

Once there we'll stop for lunch in the Navigation Inn before returning back to Portland Basin.

Suitable for both hybrid and mountain bikes, the ride is none technical running entirely along the length of the canal towpath.  The total distance is 50 km for the return journey.
