Manchester Indoor Climbing Evening - Experienced climbers (38572)
Come and join OutdoorLads at one of the largest climbing walls in Europe! With over 75 different lines to choose from there is an interesting mix of different types of climbs to enjoy. Along with two dedicated bouldering areas the Manchester Climbing Centre is a fantastic place to start off your climbing experience...
Indoor climbing centres offer the challenges of climbing that you'll find on natural outdoor structures - simply indoors! It's a fun way to stay fit, you'll quickly begin to develop arm, back, finger and core strength as a result of the many reaches and holds that are repeated through to the completion of a climb. It's a great upper-body workout!
This event is for members that are deemed to be competent climbers and do not require a guided session. All members that fulfil this criteria are welcome to come along to any of the sessions.
To come along, you will need to register via the event page, and to climb you will need to pay an entry fee directly to the centre when you arrive. For entry fee prices at the centre go to: http://www.manchesterclimbingcentre.com/prices/
For your first time climbing with us, please contact the event leader in advance to let him know what your skills and experience are. If you have not climbed at Manchester Climbing Centre before, climbing centre staff may require you to take a short test to confirm that you are competent to climb unsupervised.
It is important that all members sign up through the event page to make sure the event leader has all information of the members attending.
What to bring
If you have your own climbing gear i.e. harness, shoes, chalk-bag, Belay plate and screw-gate karabiner, climbing rope, you can bring this along, but please make sure it is in good condition.
As a minimum you will need the use of a climbing harness and a belay device (belay plate and a screw-gate karabiner, or a gri-gri if you have one). If you do not have your own, you will be able to hire what you need directly from the centre. For prices please use the link: www.manchesterclimbingcentre.com/pricing
Padlocks are available free of charge to secure your belongings in the on-site lockers.
It is best to wear either shorts, combats or tracksuit bottoms. No jeans or any form of trouser which hampers movement. A t-shirt or vest is also suitable.
If you have any OutdoorLads branded clothing then please try and wear this as it will give the group a good level of visibility.
Any jewellery such as rings, watches, chains or bangles should be removed before beginning the session to prevent injury.
Food & Drink
There is a cafe at the centre where hot and cold drinks along with snacks can be purchased. Bottled drinks can also be purchased here.
Halfway through the event we have a 30 minute break in the cafe.
Meeting & Times
Do I need a guided session?
If you can answer Yes to the following three questions:
1. Can you tie the correct knots (double figure of 8 and stopper knot)?
2. Can you fit a harness correctly?
3. Can you belay correctly and confidently?
Then you do not need a guided session and can sign up to this event.
If you answer No to any of the questions, then don't worry this means you will need to sign up instead to the beginners event to have a guided session from the event leader.
On the beginner event they will happily take you through everything you need to know to climb safely.
Please check the event listing pages for the next beginner/all ability event, or use the link: http://odl.to/climbing
Please note that every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
All those attending the event must also be aware of the centre's own terms and conditions of participation and abide by them, along with any instructions given by the centres staff. Everyone must also take responsibility for their own safety while participating in Indoor climbing events.
After we finish climbing we have a short social session in the Molly House where we can catch up with how our climbing went during the session, along with general chatter.
If you enjoyed climbing with us at The Manchester Climbing Centre, why not register for the other climbing sessions at this centre, or checkout other indoor climbing events throughout the country in the 'related events' section, or by using the link: http://odl.to/climbing
