An easy hill-walk starting from Britain's highest village

The Lowthers are a range of hills in the Southern Uplands lying between the upper Clyde and Nith valleys on the boundary between South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway. Once an important lead mining area, they are now adorned with radio masts and 'scientific furniture'. With some of the summits accessible by tarmac strip they are amongst the easiest climbed hills in the country.

Our walk will start with a great height advantage from Wanlockhead village (466m) and take in East Mount Lowther (631m), Lowther Hill (724m) and Green Lowther (732m) - a distance of around 14km (8.5 miles) - an ideal first event for hill-walking novices. There may be time after the walk to have a short trip on the Leadhills and Wanlockhead miniature railway or visit the Museum of Lead Mining in Wanlockhead village.
