Awesome Walls Liverpool is situated in St Albans Church. The church first opened its doors in 1849 and closed them in to worshipers in 1991. The doors were reopened to a new breed of worshipers in 1999! Whether you're an absolute beginner wanting to learn how to climb or an experienced outdoor climber Awesome Walls has lots to offer you. The climbing centre is based in a lofty, one hundred and fifty year old church. You can lead climb to the rafters, or stand watching in the aisles with a cup of tea. As well as a variety of top roped routes catering for all levels from beginner to advanced, there is also a range of bouldering options to choose from.

Indoor climbing centres offer the challenges of climbing that you’ll find on natural outdoor structures-simply indoors. It’s a fun way to stay fit, you will quickly begin to develop arm, back, finger, and core strength as a result of the many reaches and holds that are repeated through the completion of the climb.

This event is for members of all levels of experience and all are welcome to come along to any of the sessions, just sign up using this event page and then pay the centre direct for entry. It is important that all members sign up through the event page to make sure the event leader has all information of the members attending. This event is open to all full, trial and guest OutdoorLads members. The payment links above are optional for experienced/competent climbers as a contribution to Outdoorlads and for purchase of gear for outdoor climbing/bouldering sessions. So if you choose to pay, thank you.

Entry fee and equipment hire If you don’t have your own climbing gear you can hire them inside the centre. If you have not been to the centre before you will need to complete their registration form when you arrive. You can save time by downloading the centres registration form here. You can then complete and print this to take with you to the centre. Entry to the centre on this event for full members is at the centre’s concessionary rate on production of a valid outdoorlads membership card. Guest and trial members will be charged at the centres standard rate. For the centres current entry rates please click on this link. If you purchase membership to the centre a further reduction on entry cost will be made. Kit hire prices are also listed on the above link

If you're a beginner, novice or unsure for any reason, and wish to have a guided session from the event leader, you will also need to pay £5.00 (Trial or Full Member) or £6.00 (Guest Member) OutdoorLads fees, which covers the tuition from OutdoorLads.

Novice/Regular/Expert climber Can you answer YES to these 3 questions...?

  1. Can you tie the correct knots (figure of eight and stopper)?
  2. Can you fit a harness correctly?
  3. Can you belay?

If you can answer

Yes

to the above questions you are probably competent to sign yourself into the centre.

If

No

, then please don't be put off. All this means is you will need to be signed in by the event leader who will then provide you with an evenings tuition.

Please use the link at the top of this page to pay. (Payments are used to cover the costs of organising the event, buying group equipment and to pay the wall entrance fees of members who sign in 2 members).

Please Note

: Every person participating should be aware of (and accept) that those members perceived as ‘in charge’ or leading the event are not necessarily qualified, do not need to be qualified, and are not regarded by OutdoorLads, or themselves as ‘technical experts’ but are amateur climbers with some experience and who are happy to impart their knowledge. Any advice given should be considered with this in mind by the recipient.
