The Isle of Portland becomes a birdwatcher's paradise as we approach the Spring during this epic weekend castaway. This limestone island warmed by the Gulf Stream measures just 4 miles long by 1.7 miles wide and is joined to the mainland via Chesil Beach, which is one of the longest shingle beaches in Britain.

We will be staying on the island and exploring (with Nemo) 13 miles of Jurassic coastline featuring dramatic, rugged cliffs, nationally rare plants, hidden coves and stunning views.

There is so much to see, from the functioning 300 year old Portland Bill lighthouse, to fossilised trees and the Nicodemus Knob. The local museum also hosts a fossil garden and artifacts ranging from ship wrecks, stone carvings to petrified cats!

Portland is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast. Chesil Beach is 5 minutes’ walk away, whilst Weymouth’s award-winning beach is just 5 miles away.

Within a few minutes’ walk of our hostel you could take part in sailing, climbing, diving, wind surfing and other water sports offered by the local firms, if you preferred.

The weekend will also feature a St Patrick's day Buffet, a wine tasting experience, lots of good music, good food and a quiz.
