This is one of two days walks over the weekend. For accommodation, try the brand new facilities at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub (www.yorkshirecyclehub.co.uk) or contact the walk leader for other options.
A 10 miles circular walk from Ainthorpe in the Esk Valley, taking in Danby Dale and Great and Little Fryup Dales. We will have a stop at the shiny new Yorkshire Cyxle Hub one the way back for tea and cakes forthe last pull up over Danby Rigg back to the start.
From Ainthorpe, we will climb up onto Ainthorpe Rigg with fine views down into Danby Dale. We'll head out past 'Botton Rock' and above Botton Village.
Eventually joining a quiet Moorland road, for about a mile, we then head off on what is part of Wainwright's Coast to Coast route, but only for about a mile (resisitng the temptation to go to Robin Hood's Bay today). Here, we descend a short steep path to the head of Great Fryup Dale, an idyllic spot, at the confluence of two streams, where we may stop for a break.
Heading north along the Dale bottom, we will soon reach the Yorkshire Cycle Hub. This new facility is well worth checking out (and will be used for an ODL bunk-house weekend before too long). www.yorkshirecyclehub.co.uk
We'll stop for refreshments before the fial couple of miles up and over Danby Rigg back to the start.
What to bring
Bring full waterproofs and wear decent boots that'll keep the water out as it\ll be boggy in places.
Food & drink
Bring a packed lunch and drinks, but we plan to stop at the Yorkshire Cycle Hub for tea and cakes abut 3/4 the way round.
