The route winds through woodlands by rivers and along old railway paths and gives great vantage points to see the steam trains on the heritage railway.
There are two short climbs earlier in the walk and after Goathland aka Aidensfield on the return the walking is easy and flat.
This is a good walk for seeing bird life and visits several historic sites connected to the old steam railway.
If you are a fan of character pubs the first pub visited is a gem hidden in the most picturesque spot by the river. Inside there are several ales brewed to be sold exclusively here and a large seating area to sit outside.
Food & drink
Please bring a packed lunch we will be having a picnic beside the railway for a good view of the passing steam train. Please bring some water or other cool drink. The walk will be in several stages and we will be stoping every couple of miles at a pub/hotel/coffee shop for about half an hour at each. The finish time will be around 6pm there are two good places to have dinner before leaving for home and I recommend the food at both of these.
