Christmas Eve Lewes circular
5 people attending
25 places left
Christmas Eve this year falls on a Saturday and while many will be busy with preparations for the following day, others may not. This walk is chosen for the contrast of a complete getaway into the countryside and our subsequent visit to the probably manic streets of East Sussex' County town, Lewes, plus the easy accessibility of the location.
We shall leave the town fairly rapidly and make our way under the A27 by the side of the River Ouse, following it in the Southbound direction it takes as it nears its mouth at nearby Newhaven. However, we shall leave it well before then and pass through the hamlets of Rodmell and Southease before climbing up onto the South Downs Way.
If the weather is clear we will see some of the views shown in these photographs with Lewes and then parts of the Sussex Low Weald in the background. We shall walk North East on this route for three miles or so and then descend to pass through the village of Kingston, across both the road and the railway and enter the town on a route which takes us straight down the High Street and thence to other streets as we wish on our way back to the start point and perhaps one of the many pubs which this town offers.
