The walk consists of a variety of terrain from a gently sloping valley, to upland heath, to a bluebell wood.

As you approach the area you will see the long ridge, which is the Long Mynd which stands proud behind Church Stretton.

The Long Mynd is an area of upland heath which comprises some of Birtain's oldest rocks. The ancient landscape has been shaped by human activity for thousands of years, and there are scattered remains from the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Medieval times. Together, The Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley are designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB); they offer great views over Shropshire, up to Cheshire and over to the Black Mountains on a good day.
