A challenging day walk. A 20 minute drive from the campsite will be required.

This is it, the challenge of a walk in terms of the height gained through the day.  The Carneddau are some of the most awesome and yet the quietest of the mountains in Snowdonia due to their relative inaccessibility by well-trodden pathways.  We start from Llyn Ogwen and head up past a local mountaineering hut to a glacial bowl with the small lake called Ffynnon Lloer in it.  Then comes the slog up to the summit of Pen-yr-ole-Wen at 978 metres, we are at the top of the Ogwen Valley with awesome views of the day to come and other adventures in nearby mountains.  We then continue along the ridge to take in Carnedd Dafydd and Carnedd Llewelyn – the ridge between these mountains is incredible and breathtaking.  We then pick our steady way back down along the reservoir that marks the source of the Llugwy river that charges its way down the valley and into Betws-y-Coed.  The descent is steep at first but steadies out as we reach the road and a short walk to the cars.
