Bleaklow walk from Glossop
3 people attending
17 places left
From our meeting point in Glossop we will head up onto the moorland via Lightside Ridge, then onto the heather moorland passing Dog Rock and the Yellowslack waterfalls. We will continue following the stream up to Bleaklow Head stopping for a quick rest along the way. Then we head to ‘Overexposed’s crash site.
The B29 Superfortress crashed here on 3rd November 1948 on a flight from Scampton, Lincolnshire to Burtonwood, Warrington killing all 13 crew members. Here we can clearly see the remains of the plane, such as engines and undercarriage etc.
Continuing on we cover a short distance to the summit of Higher Shelf Stones. From here we will join the Pennine Way and descend Devil’s Dyke and through the winding Doctor’s Gate Valley to our starting point for a well-deserved brew or a pint!
